Chive Charities

See how Chive Charities revolutionized charity discovery in New Zealand with No Code technology, making it easier for locals to support causes they care about.

Project Thumbail for Chive Charities - Connor Finlayson

Chive is a Kiwi directory that makes it easy for Kiwis to find their new favourite charities.

The problem
Did you know that there are thousands of charities in New Zealand? I personally thought that there are maybe a few hundred - TURNS out we have THOUSANDS!

When Alice and Stephen, the Chive founders, got in touch with me to talk about their problem that highlighted how difficult it was for some of the smaller charities to get the awareness and support EVEN though there are a lot of Kiwis that would love to support them.

The Solution
The mission for Chive is simple... make it easy for Kiwis to find and support the causes they care about...
AND the way we are going to do that is by building a searchable directory of New Zealand charities no matter how big or small they are.

The Process
Chive was created using No Code tools - my speciality. No Code or sometimes also referred to as Low Code is a fantastic way for non-developers (like myself) to quickly spin up functioning websites and apps without having to write a line of code.

It's especially useful for businesses who 1) may want to allocate their developers towards other tasks, or 2) have more control of the design and build of their project even if they are not developers.

I used the same tools that I used to build Unicorn Factory: Webflow, Airtable, Zapier and Memberstack. In addition, we also used Parabola, Integromat, and Mailerlite for some additional features.

The entire build took about 8 weeks from design to build, and I couldn't be happier with the outcome.

Shoutout to Nikolai who I hired to help with the design and build of the site.

Try it out
If you want to find and support local charities, visit the site and check out the amazing causes Kiwis are supporting!

My personal favourites are: Zeal, Mixit and Just Speak

Why No Code?
Now that we have built the first version of Chive, Stephen and Alice can very easily build on top of what we have already done, which means that they can keep iterating on the platform as they get client feedback, without having to get us involved.
