Website build, technical support and SEO content optimisation.
I was approached to build a website for a startup in the unique space of co-parenting, offering support and workshops on successful co-parenting techniques. The founder, with a background in communication, psychology, philosophy, and mediation, lacked the creative and digital skills to launch her dream website. She had clear objectives for the website and her online presence but needed support in realizing her vision.
Project Overview
The project's objectives were to create a site that was easy for the client to edit and manage post-launch, and to facilitate bookings, blogs, services, subscriptions, and events. Additionally, as there was no existing brand package, a brand personality needed to be developed.
Project Challenges
Starting from scratch with no existing brand, I was tasked with identifying key brand pillars and core values. Together with the client, we identified target audiences, brand tone, color palettes, and more. The initial launch included a basic, minimal viable product (MVP), with the full build completed in the background. Given the reliance on SEO for traffic, I ensured the site was fully optimized for SEO best practices.
The Process I Undertook
Brand Workshop with the Client:
We held an in-depth session to define the brand, developing objectives, values, and tone of voice.
Market Research:
Given the niche market in New Zealand, I expanded research into companies working with families or children, identifying key demographics, audience pain points, and effective communication strategies.
Providing the Client with a Reverse Brief:
To ensure clarity and mutual understanding, I provided a detailed reverse brief that included key points and wireframe snippets.
Domain Registration and Email Hosting:
Based on keyword research, I advised on the most suitable domain and sourced an appropriate email hosting package, integrating it with the site.
Website Development:
Although initially considering Webflow, we chose Wix for its user-friendly interface, particularly for managing hidden or gated content. I customized a template to fit the reverse brief, incorporating elements like a booking portal, subscriber functionality, blogs, and an about us page.
Training the Client:
Emphasizing self-management of the website, I conducted virtual training sessions and provided clear documentation for ongoing site management. I continue to offer technical support, including SEO-optimized content creation.
Social Media Guidance:
I shared best practices for establishing a social media presence and introduced tools to enhance her digital footprint, supporting the client’s goal of self-sustainability.
Throughout the project, I maintained a close, informal working relationship with the client, adapting to her preference for a non-agency style of collaboration. Our partnership continues to grow as we embark on new projects and ongoing support.
