Learn to Brew – A Comprehensive Guide to Safe Kombucha Brewing at Home

It seems slightly counterintuitive, teaching people the secrets behind the perfect brew. Brandon was motivated by the idea that those brewing at home are already on their journey with kombucha, and he wanted a way to capture that audience.

This also allows him to educate on how to brew safely, as many beginners might not understand the dangers of an unsafe brew; contamination, bad bacteria, mould, botulism, explosions. It’s a real science that can go wrong if not taken seriously.

The Vision

What started as a video series was reimagined to save on resources.

With the guide, we envisioned more than just a step-by-step guide. We aimed to offer a rich, immersive experience that would empower anyone – from novices to seasoned brewers – to master the art of kombucha brewing. We wanted the guide to be informative, accessible and aligned with Kombucha Bros’ fun, authentic, and slightly cheeky voice.

Research and Development

The first step was thorough research. Although we had a master brewer at the helm, we had to dive deep into the science of kombucha brewing. Understanding the nuances of fermentation, the importance of sterilisation, and the best practices for maintaining a healthy SCOBY.

Another aspect of the research that went into this project was knowing exactly what the audience was looking for. By following Facebook pages such as Everything Kombucha, we could work out that SCOBY health, mould and pH levels were something people often seek advice for.

Creating the Content

With a solid foundation of knowledge, we began crafting the content. We broke down the brewing process into clear, manageable steps with detailed explanations and tips. Our guide covers everything from choosing the right ingredients and equipment to troubleshooting common issues. We also included advanced techniques for those looking to take their brewing to the next level.
