Project Overview
Nkanto Foods crafts ready-to-bake frozen lasagnas featuring fresh ingredients, all blended together using a cherished family recipe. These lasagnas not only deliver satisfaction and rich flavour but, most importantly, have a homely touch.

Just breaking into the market, they wanted to get a leg up on the competition with a set of labels as fresh as their product line, leaving a lasting impression.

The challenges
Made fresh in her own kitchen, Nkanto's lasagnas have home comforts and the family at its core. This was clearly communicated during the beginning stages of this project, so it was critical that the creative direction of the labels followed this vision. The range comes in three flavours - chicken, beef, and vegetable - so clear differentiation was important.

The process
Nkanto Foods came to me with the task to create new labels, but the Nkanto logo felt dated and in need of a refresh. Nkanto will operate across multiple businesses, Nkanto Foods being one of them, so alongside the labels I helped them create a strong word-mark that could be used across their varying ventures by replacing the second word. The result is a bold logo that sits proudly on the product labels, but not dominating enough to distract from the artisanal graphic style featured throughout.

The starting phase of the project was a couple of moodboards that helped set out the direction for the labels. The chosen aesthetic was artisanal, hand-drawn, with fresh colours. Once this was confirmed with the client, I was then able to create the label designs for the range.

Results
Nkanto Foods came to me with a clear direction; to convey a product that will satisfy your taste buds and warm your soul, a meal that is made with love in a family kitchen and enjoyed at yours. The result is a label that is light and welcoming; using hand-written typography and a soft wooden texture. This is not a mass-produced corporate product, and this is communicated with Nkanto Food’s new slogan - “love in every layer” - presented proudly below the flavour. Bold colours help differentiate the three flavours whilst maximising stand-out on shelf, alongside their core USPs positioned proudly on the front.
